Master Thesis Ambiguität Gestalten
In recent years, the german term Ambiguitätstoleranz (engl. ambiguity tolerance) has garnered increasing attention, particularly within the public discourse surrounding themes of societal polarization, populism, and the negotiation of contemporary crises. Broadly denoting the concept of Mehrdeutigkeit, the less ubiquitous term Ambiguität pertains to the quality of being open to multiple interpretations or lacking in unequivocal clarity. Given that the realm of creative design is inherently characterized by situations lacking singular clarity, an intersection between ambiguity, design, and the nuanced approach to impending societal challenges becomes discernible.
Within the confines of the master's thesis entitled Ambiguität Gestalten (engl. Shaping Ambiguity) due emphasis is placed on the consequential nexus between ambiguity and design. Employing theoretical frameworks from the domains of media, communication, and design, the thesis endeavors to scrutinize the role that ambiguity plays in the creative processes undertaken by designers. Against the backdrop of societal cleavage and a diminishing capacity for ambiguity tolerance, the adeptness of designers in navigating ambiguity and complexity begets profound implications for their role and responsibility in shaping the trajectory of our collective future.
